In Mannheim, Freiherr Drais invented an early predecessor of a bicycle,

Dr. Carl Benz invented the motor car – the first automobile that deserved this name,

the Lanz Bulldog was the first agricultural tractor to conquer the world,

Mannheim can be rightly referred to as the birthplace and world centre of modern mobility.

This is also accounted for by a large number of museums in the region, some of which are exclusively dedicated to this issue, whereas others have certain "mobility" departments.

The most important museum is the "Automuseum Dr. Carl Benz" in Ladenburg, where the original factory halls of the former Benz factory grant incredible insights into the beginning of the history of the automobile.
